Hidenwood Elementary School Reviews

I think Dr. Hill is doing a very good job. I am impressed with her credentials as an educator. She seems to care about the children, the parents and the teachers.

I think the principal is doing a good job! I can't understand why anyone would say otherwise! Let's support our teachers and the new principal! This school always needs our help!

Some of the teachers are wonderful, others leave much to be desired. The school, in general, has no control over the children. Most parents do very little to be involved in the school. The principle blows a bunch of smoke up your backside when you confront her about anything. It's an old school that needs tons of work and should not be open for classes!

The PTA in past years has been small but wonderful. A lot of parents at Hidenwood will not help out. Teachers are great, but the principal is awful. She does not care for kids and only cares about looking good in front of the higher ups. You will never see her in the cafeteria with the kids or in the halls. She stays in her office or out to lunch. Since she has been there the test scores have went down and we did not make AYP this year.

Hidenwood has an amazing group of teachers and students. I am not impressed with the new principal that is there now. The parent involvement is very low. There are usually more teachers at PTA meetings and events than parents. However, the parents who are involved are wonderful and supportive. The school's academics are right in line with what Virginia state mandates, but I think the teachers have had a lot of creative control taken away from them.

Hidenwood started the year out strong with parent involvement but since the middle of the year has lost my involvement. Family involvement needs to be more interesting activities. We work all day and we do not always want to attend another workshop, the are educational but sometimes it is too much. The teachers at Hidenwood are friendly and helpful they do address the needs of the children. I would like to see me extra curicular involvement for the students and more communication between the parents and the teachers! Over all it is a school my son has enjoyed for the last 2 years. We will soon find out the outcome of the SOL.

Hidenwood is a good school with great teachers and great a Asst. Principal. Others employees could use a reality check. However, there is no denying that our teachers are unbelievable. They are devoted and passionate about teaching our children to the best of thier ability. Parent interaction is very low but there are those parents that are VERY active. I don't think the parent involvement is the school fault but rather a sign of the times, people need to work. You can't blame a school system for the rising cost of living.

We were very happy with Hidenwood Elementary school. Our girls went to this school to finish out the year. We moved from another state, the staff was great, the teachers were very good and overall we were very happy with the instruction. Parent involvement needs to be higher but it seems like they are heading in the right direction. Overall I would recommend this school.

Overall, Hidenwood is a good, not great, but good school. I would like to see higher test scores, more parent involvement and more opportunities given to the teachers to actually teach. We have some amazing teachers at Hidenwood, and I would like for them to be able to more freely share their talents with our students. I feel that there is far too much focus on the SOL's and not enough on actual learning. That said, we have had some changes over the last two years and we are still experiencing some growing pains. Hidenwood is definitely a work in progress, and well worth the effort that staff, parents and students put in to it. Overall, we have a wonderful teaching staff, and a small, but extremely dedicated PTA. I believe that Hidenwood will become a great school in the near future with focus, detirmination and more parent involvement.

This school has a lack of leadership, organization, and professionalism. Do not send your child to this school.

Teacher is great, new to school. However, lack of involvement in pta from majority of school parents and staff. Daughter complains of dirty restrooms constantly. Seem to be 'blown off' by principal when approached with learning environment issues. Seems to need more organization and emphasis on accelerated reader program and sol scores.

Wonderful school, New principal and great teachers. My daughter loves it and feels very comfortable there. There should be more parents involved, but that is not the schools fault, it is the parents that need to try harder.

Lack of communication between Principal and teachers as well as parents. Discipline problems in the upper grades. Principal dismisses parents concerns unless forced to answer questions. IE: involvement of school board
